Last week, I went out to discover that rabbits like not only beans but my beloved okra too! This called for immediate action. I picked up some netting, some posts, and a container of pellets that are supposed to make the critters turn away in disgust. The pellets seemed to work for about 48 hours. I am guessing that the rabbits just don't care what my okra smells like. So last night, Tony put up the netting. He promises me that he investigated the world record for how high a rabbit can leap. He also promises that the fence is higher than that, yet low enough for me to step over. We shall see.
We are supposed to be camping right now. Two kids are camping, sort of. They are camped out on the couch with fevers. I am trying to stay positive (I am positive I am disappointed!) and count my blessings on this day before Thanksgiving. Thankful: - that my husband braved the grocery store so I could stay home and nurse sick little people. - for Advil, since fevers over 103 scare me. - for beautiful fall colors outside the window. - that we are not trying to care for sick kiddos in a camper far from the comforts of home. - that I got some pretty photos of the kids this weekend - for family and friends - for a roof over our heads, food for our bodies, and clothing for us all - for a God who loves me, even at my worst I pray for quick healing for my kids and all those who are sick on this day. I pray that all of you may have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day tomorrow.
Persistent squirrels in my bird feeders are driving me crazy! I read that cayenne pepper discourages them, and the birds remain unharmed because they can't taste it. You may also want to try--maybe your mammals won't like it either! The fence may just do the job, though. Fingers crossed for you.
ReplyDeleteI have bird netting ALL over my blueberry bushes for this very reason. Makes it take much longer to pick, but I don't care. Nothing drives me crazier than the critters eating my hard-won produce!
ReplyDeleteyour garden looks lovely! It won't take long for them to dig under the fence if they are desperate though. Watch out for holes along the fence line! Rowanne
