Lest I Forget

Anna turned 14 yesterday. We made our second trip to the zoo after getting her ears pierced and lunch at Chick-fil-a. Our first trip, we missed the gorillas. Yesterday we arrived just as the program about the gorillas began. We were able to see a mother and 3 month old baby. After that, we moseyed around, taking our time, and enjoying the non-animal activities. Sadly for Peter, most of these activities require you to weigh more than his 35 pounds. He can ride the carousel, however, and after taking a few whirls around, we crossed over the bridge to the gardens and splash pad. I can tell we are going to love this zoo! I am joining in Ginny's yarn along today. I have one project finished and on its way to the recipient. I will wait until it is received before I post pictures. The other project can be revealed, even though I am not finished. It is for Sophie. She saw it while I was visiting the states, so she knows what she will be getting eventually. I need quiet for her shawl because it is a lot of cables and twists and it would be easy to lose count. It is this pattern that I found on Ravelry. So far, a very well-written pattern. What we have been reading/listening to is "Arthur and the Invisibles". It is read by Jim Dale and is most enjoyable. I am still working on "Death Comes for the Archbishop". In other news, my sweet Anna turned 10 years old on Sunday. In the military world, this is big because you get your ID card on this birthday. Anna was doing her social studies, in which they asked her to look up common last names in the dictionary to see what job had influenced their name. All was fine until the name Brewer. "Mom. There is only brew and brewery. They don't have brewer." "Well, then what does the word brew mean?" I prompted. "To make beer or ale," she read. "So, one who makes beer or ale would be a....what?" I asked. "A....alcoholist?" I think I might need some alcohol before this lesson is finished!

Two months ago, Anna tried to donate her hair. She was one inch shy of the required ten inches. Patiently, or not :), she waited. Today, we returned to the salon and the scissors cut through her hair. Being the great blogger that I am, I forgot  to take a before shot.

In a span of three and a half weeks, we have celebrated three birthdays! Peter turned one, Anna is nine, and Therese is now three years old! Can I just say "whew"? We have eaten a lot of cake! Anna knew for quite some time the things she would like for her birthday. A bigger bike (she needed one), her ears pierced (she is my girly girl), and a Rubik's cube (she is also fond of puzzles). Her grandmother gave her some money to pick out a new leotard for gymnastics. I looked at her the other day as she breezed past me and I saw that she is growing without my permission. I keep thinking of her as my little girl. She is now older than Ben ever got to be and maybe that is why I try not to notice that she is nine. Let's just say that I will never have a lucrative career as a cake decorater. It didn't really matter how they looked, they tasted delicious and they held the candles nicely. To hand over months and months of work to your postal worker takes courage my friend. They cannot possibly understand the importance of the package in their mailbag. The day I received the news that my gift had reached its recipient, I breathed a sigh of relief. And now, I can share with you the pictures of the baby blanket. I will say that while I love the finished product, the pattern was written so poorly that I cannot recommend this pattern to anyone. The blanket was the big project, taking me at least 4 months to complete. After something like that, well, I needed to go small scale. There was a partially completed little owl laying in my knitting bag, so I finished knitting him. I had made a smaller one for Peter a while back. Anna really liked the new owl, so it is hers. I ordered some yarn for a new project that will require sewing along with knitting and several other new techniques. Hopefully my mailbox will have fluffy yarn in it today. While waiting, I...
