Joining Ginny for a yarn along. Still working on a secret knit. Still loving it. After seeing that Ginny was reading my all-time favorite book last week, I pulled out my copy of my second favorite book to take with me to an appointment. I love re-reading it because I always find something new that speaks to me. This morning it was this:  "The sad thing was in the knowing that all their nerve would get them nowhere in the world and that they were lost as all people in Brooklyn seem lost when the day is nearly over and even though the sun is still bright, it is thin and doesn't give you warmth when it shines on you."

I have not gotten much knitting time since Peter joined our family. My arms are always full and I am glad. However, I saw this pattern for a super cute Halloween costume for Therese and I knew she would love it. She calls it her "sheepy". I had started on it before Peter was born and I finally finished the vest last week. It was slow going and clumsy with those huge needles and holding chunky yarn double. To give my hands a break before I make the hat, I tried making a pair of booties for a new baby of a friend. Why do I try to make booties? I am always disappointed in the results. This time, I followed the pattern for the 3 month size and ended up with a bootie that would fit a 12 month old instead. I just don't think I am supposed to knit cute little booties. Hats, no problem. Sweaters, got it. Cute Halloween costumes, check it out. The only reading I have been doing is other blogs. For those of you who, like me, are more than disheartened by all that is in the news recently (I am more than worried about the future of our country.), I thought I'd share a little something that made me laugh out loud. So, back when the weather was warmer and I actually ventured out of doors, I found this book at a yard sale... It was published in 1963, and I thought it would be fun to see the tips from housewives back then. The introduction made me laugh out loud though... Can you read it? The paragraph in brackets?

I want to thank Ginny at small things for hosting the yarn along. What with a new baby in my arms, I have not found time for reading or knitting and they happen to be two of my favorite things to do. I miss the needles clicking softly as the yarn makes nice neat rows of little hearts. It does my own heart good to see things so organized while my house is still so crazy! How are you supposed to fit all these baby gadgets in a room? We are definitely not going to be looking like anything in Better Homes and Gardens any time soon. Sigh. The knitting is so close to being done. I could finish it within an hour or two, but there are so many other pulls on my time and heartstrings. I can't wait to lanolize the cover and see it on her little bum! The book is so good! I did not think I would be reading this for quite some time, for I was number 43 on the wait list when I put a hold on it. But when I went for my weekly library visit, there it was, with my name on it, waiting for me! I look...
