Too close for comfort

Last week, right before a long four-day weekend, I had an ultrasound to determine the position of the placenta, since it looked suspiciously close to the cervix at my 20 week scan. After not so patiently waiting the whole weekend, I got a call this morning. It is close. Four millimeters close. Too close.

There will be more ultrasounds, one at 32 weeks and again at 36 weeks, to monitor how things are progressing. The hope is that as the uterus expands, it will pull the placenta back. If not, then we are looking at a C-section. My first after six normal, uncomplicated deliveries.

So I am asking for prayers that things will improve enough that I can avoid surgery. And if that is not the case, then please pray that I will be brave. I am a wimp about these kind of things. No medication for a natural delivery? No problemo. Put a big needle in my back and then slice open my skin? Egads!

I will also let you know that I have had this sense of urgency to get things ready early this time around. Everything seems normal, but I have had this nagging feeling that I need to be prepared early. We are not ready in the slightest.

I don't have a name for this sweet baby, Therese is still in the crib (though she did climb out by herself this morning), and all my boy baby clothes are winter clothes since Ben and Jack were winter babies. I am also getting ready to purchase more cloth diapers since it looks like I will be diapering two kids at the same time.

I know this is a small little blip in the grand scheme of things, but please add this small request to your daily intentions if you would.

  1. Sending prayers! Hoping, along with you, that things will change and you will not have to undergo c-section. And, that baby doesn't arrive too early.
May you and baby be protected in the coming weeks and be wrapped in Mary's motherly mantle.

    Keep us posted!

  2. Starting the prayers now. I'm with you in the "wimp" factor. No problem with natural deliveries - but keep the needles and knives away!! I'm praying for a good outcome with a normal, natural delivery. But also that you can find comfort in the advice of your doctor for what is best for you and the baby. Ultimately, a healthy baby and a safe delivery are the most important things - not how the delivery happens.

  3. You are in my prayers. May you be in the protection of your Creator and may his blessing be on you during this impending birth of your beautiful gift from him.

  4. You are in my prayers. And don't worry about getting ready. All a summer baby needs are t-shirts, diapers, and his mother's arms. But we'll pray he stays in there a lot longer! Trust in God.

  5. Oh my! I've added you and the family to my daily list of prayers!

  6. Not a small blip--a big one in your world. Will be praying for a normal delivery at 40 weeks.

  7. Sounds "too close". Sure hope everything goes alright!

  8. Keeping you in my prayers, Jenny. And, I agree with your friend above. Don't worry. Summer babies just need diapers and a onsie. And, now, I am scratching my head thinking, where are Joseph's summer baby clothes. If, I figure out what I have done with them, they are all yours. I have been flinging so much stuff, but I will see what I have.

Being Thankful when Life throws you lemons

We are supposed to be camping right now. Two kids are camping, sort of. They are camped out on the couch with fevers. I am trying to stay positive (I am positive I am disappointed!) and count my blessings on this day before Thanksgiving. Thankful: - that my husband braved the grocery store so I could stay home and nurse sick little people. - for Advil, since fevers over 103 scare me. - for beautiful fall colors outside the window. - that we are not trying to care for sick kiddos in a camper far from the comforts of home. - that I got some pretty photos of the kids this weekend - for family and friends - for a roof over our heads, food for our bodies, and clothing for us all - for a God who loves me, even at my worst I pray for quick healing for my kids and all those who are sick on this day. I pray that all of you may have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day tomorrow.

The Door Table

Once there was a store in Georgia. It is no more, but how I wish it was. I likened going in there to treasure hunting. One never knew what was going to be in there, and you had to dig through and wade through all the "other people's treasures" to find your own. I once found a set of blue and white teacups and saucers from England. I found lace handkerchiefs, a rocking chair, and an end table. But by far the best find was my kitchen table. I had stopped by one day while the kids were taking horseback lessons and the then little ones were asleep. The store was not open, but I went up to the window to see if anything new was there. And it was there. The table. And six chairs too! We were in need of a bigger table with Jack on the way. My mom had offered to give us her old one, which I was going to accept if I didn't find something I liked better. I didn't want anyone else to even see the table because I knew it was supposed to be ours, but one can never tell abo...

Paris

With our backpacks repacked for the next leg of our adventure, I awoke in the wee hours of the morning to make sure we were ready. We walked from our house down to the train station, stopping at the bakery for breakfast. Tony was able to join us just for the day, but I am so glad he was with us for even a short time. Upon arriving, we navigated to our flat, waited for the owners and checked in. It was in a very old building, the wooden steps creaked and groaned under our feet as we climbed to the third floor. It was definitely a quaint flat, harkening back to a much earlier era. We then headed out to meet my sister and her family at the Louvre. We said goodbye to Tony and went to find dinner and strolled past the Eiffel Tower. Then back to the flat to get some sleep. Our second day started out a little rough. I could not get the wifi to work, nor would my phone work. I decided to shower and try to not stress. I went to plug in the hair dryer that was at the flat, only to discover...
